Adoption
Adoption is a legal
procedure by which a child born to one set of parents becomes the child
of another parent or couple. The new parent or parents assume full rights
and responsibilities for the child and the biological parent or parents
no longer have any rights and responsibilities to the child. Adult adoptions
do sometimes take place.
The adoption of a
child is an important decision. The child will look to you for love, guidance,
and support. In addition to the financial obligations relating to the
rearing and care of a child, you will provide moral guidance, self-esteem
and a host of other developmental necessities to help the child become
a successful adult.
Locating a child for
adoption can be accomplished through a private, licensed adoption agency,
the Department of Children and Families (DCF), or an intermediary. An
intermediary is an attorney licensed in the State of Florida.
